Pregnancy Massage Training in the Maldives

Pregnancy Massage Training in the Maldives

Our Pregnancy Massage courses are with the Well mother organisation founded by Suzanne Yates who offers the most comprehensive international pregnancy massage training.

I trained with Suzanne in 2006 and went on to do her teacher training. This year we have been working together to develop a new certificate course designed for delivering training in Spa’s and luxury treatment centres.

So when Suzanne contacted me to teach the pregnancy massage certificate in the Four Seasons resort Maldives, I was not going to hesitate!

After a 20-hour journey that went very smoothly, two lovely members of staff met me at the airport and I was speed boated to the Atoll of Kuda Huraa.

I was met there by a group of drummers and the Spa manger Sanju Upadhyay who was 7 months pregnant and keen to have us there before her maternity leave.

Shortly after arrival, as part of my teaching preparation, I was pampered with their jet lag reviver package. This was a two and half hour treatment which included a full body massage, traditional Malaysian herbal techniques, a beautiful mud wrap and head treatment. It was tough but someone has to do it!!!  After this amazing treatment, fabulous food and sleeping in the luxury beach villa I felt on top form to start work the next day.

The spa itself was a beautiful arrangement of stilted treatment rooms over the sea with a glass floor under the couches so that during your treatment you could gaze at the tropical fish and baby sharks below. Even though the Spa is part of the main resort island, it is a short boat ride from the main jetty.

The therapists came from Thailand, Bali, India and Costa Rica. They were all very experienced and a close team which made them great to work with.

Over the next four days we worked through the course material, theory classes taking place in their conference rooms and the practical sessions in the spa itself.

The therapists worked very hard and passed their written and practical assessments on the last day with flying colours so that I could present them with their certificates. As I was giving them out, they also discovered they had won the Four Seasons Best Spa award for the south pacific region the second time in a row.  This is no mean feat as there is stiff competition with all the spas being at very high level. We all had fun celebrating everyone’s achievements.

It was great to teach the new certificate course that Suzanne and I had been designing this year. It was not only a beautiful environment to work in but great to see that bigger organisations take the welfare and health of Pregnant and postnatal woman seriously and ensure that their therapist have a high level of training in pregnancy to ensure the treatments are very safe and tailored to women’s needs.
